“A Million Little Pieces” by James Frey

Remember that story in the news about Oprah bashing that guy on her show because he lied about his autobiography? Well folks, this is that very “autobiography.”

I read it a few months after that whole Oprah ordeal and I don’t know why people didn’t realize it was fake sooner. Has anyone read Girl, Interrupted or at least seen the movie? The similarities are endless! I remember reading the book and constantly flipping over to the cover to make sure I wasn’t reading Kaysen’s novel (which is among one of my favourites). I’d say one of the only major differences is the narrator, this one is male.

One thing I did like about the novel is the cover. I’m one of those judge-the-book-by-the-cover kind of gal. Not to say that I won’t read a book with a hideous cover, I will (if I enjoy the book), but a lot of my decision to read a novel comes with looking at the title page and seeing if it grabs my attention or not. This one did.

In any case, if you’d like to judge for yourself if you think this book sounds realistic or not, or even just read it to find out what all the fuss is about, it’s a decent read. I did end up reading it fairly quickly and I can’t say the story wasn’t interesting, so why not give it a try if you’re up for it.
