I just finished reading Tina Fey’s book, Bossypants. Actually, I just finished laughing hysterically while trying to catch my breath while trying to see the words on the page of Tina Fey’s book through my laugh tears. In one word: HYSTAMAZING! (that’s a combination of hysterical and amazing).
Tina Fey is a comic genius and her book just further proves it. She starts by telling you why you might have picked up her book…reasons include: trying to keep your daughter a virgin or maybe it’s seventy years into the future and you’re an alien who happened to find her book in the street. Basically you’ll be laughing right from the start (including the dedication to her parents: “I made this [the book] out of macaroni for you”).
The book lets you follow Tina Fey from her college years where she was obviously Mexican and hiking up a mountain in the night in hopes of getting some “under the shirt action” from a guy through to her time at The Second City with Amy Poelher to her honeymoon on a burning ship to working on SNL to working on 30 Rock to guest staring on SNL to having babies to writing funny stories about babies and children.
It’s hard to pick my favourite parts, but things that stand out from Tina Fey’s talk about babies include her hatred of the word “nanny” and instead using the word “Coordinator of Toddlery” and a prayer she wrote about her daughter: “And when she one day turns on me and calls me a Bitch in front of Hollister, give me the strength, Lord, to yank her directly into a cab in front of her friends, for I will not have that shit. I will not have it.”
In conclusion: READ THIS BOOK!
